Our one-to-one reading program has now grown to 4 readers. Thank you, volunteers!
If you, or someone you know would enjoy reading aloud to individual residents at care facilities, please contact [email protected]

The Friends' Homebound Committee is responsible for supporting individuals who are unable to leave their homes due to illness, disability, age, or other limitations. Their goal is to ensure homebound individuals remain connected to their community, and maintain a quality of life despite their physical restrictions.
As mentioned in last month’s Focus on Friends, in addition to the Share With Me Program, providing a one-on-one reading service to homebound individuals was being explored. This is now a reality! Welcome to Evon (Penny) Altenburg, our very first one-on-one Reader, who will be visiting residents at The Gardens.
Readings are no more than 1/2 hour. Days and times are flexible, but mid-mornings are preferred. Suitable materials would include, magazine articles, news clippings, poems, and book summaries. In time, the program is expected to expand and serve additional Sun City care facilities.
