The Friends' Homebound Committee is responsible for supporting individuals who are unable to leave their homes due to illness, disability, age, or other limitations.  Their goal is to ensure homebound individuals remain connected to their community, and maintain a quality of life despite their physical restrictions.

As mentioned in last month’s Focus on Friends, in addition to the Share With Me Program, providing a one-on-one reading service to homebound individuals was being explored.  This is now a reality!  Welcome to Evon (Penny) Altenburg, our very first one-on-one Reader, who will be visiting residents at The Gardens.

Readings are no more than 1/2 hour.  Days and ti
mes are flexible, but mid-mornings are preferred. Suitable materials would include, magazine articles, news clippings, poems, and book summaries. In time, the program is expected to expand and serve additional Sun City care facilities.

IN OTHER NEWS...

On July 17th, the one-on-one Readers got together to meet each other, to share ideas, and to discuss any observations that might be helpful to the group.  They met in the Gathering Place, inside the Bell Branch Library.
